The story of the paper "Carta Varese"

What's the "Carta Varese"?

Its production was born in Bassano del Grappa in the seventeeth century through "Casa Remondini", active from 1660 to 1860. Founder was Giovanni Antonio Remondini, which began to print books of devotion, of folk stories and images of saints. In the busiest period, the Company Remondinis counted more than a thousand workers, 18 presses and 24 presses copper for intaglio printing.

Between 1859 and 1860, they were separated and sold the various products in Bassano, Venice and Varese. In particular, the production of decorated paper covers the Molina paper mill of Malnate (Va), printing already famous and productive.

In 1957 Giorgio Tassotti began his printer and, in collaboration with the Museum of Bassano del Grappa, it proposes not only the ancient prints, but also decorated papers. In '900 the famous confectioners Zamberletti use this card to pack the famous "Dolce Varese", wrapped in a sheet with the reason for the lily. Today is mainly used for the technique of cardboard and for covering boxes and drawers.
